new Intent() starts new instance

I want an intent to start an Activity that simply brings up a dialog popup box telling the user how to use the app.

The problem is that you are inside another class there and are passing the Intent a wrong context. You have to pass it the right context.

<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.ct"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0" >

Intent intent = new Intent (this,MainTopRightDialog.class);

‘this’ should be the specific class.this

You want the “this” of the parent class, not the “this” of the inner class.

补充一下使用该全局变量的关键
要在程序配置文件AndroidManifest.xml中application节点下面增加 android:name=”TestApplication”, 这个TestApplication就是继承了Application的类;
如果在调试中出现找不到类的问题,尝试在android:name=”完整包名.TestApplication
